Nadir

or Bane or...

Enhanced State of the Union,
Republican Response,
and the Third Way?**

With minimum of rhetoric I have filtered of sorts. Boy, was it hard work! Googling* is not easy. I tried to find "fair and balanced" sources, but these
were the ones I chose to settle on. There is more than irony in the way the searches worked, or is there? Some might call it a conspiracy. But others might wish for a 4th dimension.

* or any search engine depending on the words chosen
(and original intent) as original viewing was CNN but sometimes it is not just me.

** 1-26-11

[1-26-11 Woof! Ratings are now in for the SOTU, and here are two ecumenical references. Rachel Maddow, a "prayer for the free-market" from as Joe Scarborough put it "the Cardinal". Who let the CEO's out! Speaking of "genre" note the connection to CNN. My bad, I can't located any embedded references in by blog to a recent Republican Debate sponsored by CNN, but it may be there somewhere. But this does link to the question of the genre of the networks.]

*Huckabee Paul? Which Paul? There is something odd about some of the polling. Democrats of course would love to have the likes of Sarah Palin* [** See ** here] or worse as an opponent for the sake of their candidate, Obama or not. But what would be good for the country? Should one party really be concerned with picking the other's candidate? I am just saying that a Huckabee Paul team may be less bad, and have a more reasonable debate than what Rebulicans might end up with based on the calculus of divide and dilute.[lemon in dilute link is a reference to the movement of liquids(independents/moderates) from one party to the other: a moderate Rebublican would have an uphill battle against a real centrist in that Obama's support is coming from the middle while his policies are supported by more than the left.]

*not that she won't evolve or indeed run from herself (i.e. be a force) Not that this theory applies only to running but maybe to the media there is a three bears comparison of MSNBC, CNN, FOX. My tangent is the persective that for every force there is an equal and opposite reaction, and sometimes it applies to getting information out and the reaction is the point. [A prime example is Palin/Michelle Huckabee and the right to desserts. But Palin is a force that Republicans have a problem running from. But it is earned media or is it. It is kind of funny how the subject of entitlements or rights(freedoms) is confused here. ] [cnn SMART IS THE NEW RICH hunger is the sauce Hal Sparks on CNN]Home Sweet Home?

Breitbart Lives!

Not exactly the Starting Point, but Soledad O'Brien "clashes" with Big Journalism** Editor-in-Chief over "critical race theory" and a with-held video.
It almost seems that CNN* is a wannabe FOX or MSNBC.
It is more than swift iron knee that FOX has any concern for material being with-held.

* not to single out or be overly critical of CNN or Soledad O'Brien, but they do seem to be competing for "fair and balanced" between the other two "news" networks. FOX is the veritable "you started it" network. The media was too liberal so they had to have a "fair and balanced" take on their reality. Making room for MSNBC as a counter force. CNN has the real challenge trying not to be either, but still news or journalism in a market environment.

Dean:

A perspective on the request to the Democratic Party that others take it easy on him. (I paraphrase based on a CNN segment that got me started again.)

CNN question: A mistake or diversion.

CNN host: A diversion is always a mistake. ( I paraphrase almost exactly, but never the less will not attribute more specifically)

My perspective on the possible mistake that Dean asks for help on the playing field. Not.

Maybe only an intentional irony in that it is a diversion. For is not the main goal to beat Bush and is not the playing field whatever it takes. For in Bush, is not diversion a close partner to “Staying on message”?

Now I do not espouse “whatever it takes”, but communications is a tricky thing. War may be also “what ever it takes” but as to the principles in getting there, there should be a difference.

Fair and Balanced Summit

I did not return to the livestream after the break [*] but dealt with other issues. But did tune in to FOX for a "fair and balanced" perspective paraphrased that: If you were D you were pleased with the points made, and if you were R you were pleased with the points made.

But I do quibble that there was no change, because there is a fair and balance ratio of the 52% that do not want reconciliation who are either misinformed or hypocritical about its potential, which would flip-flop that matter to the left, not to mention future polls that might determine change in support for both the Obama plan and the public option.
(Not to mention CNN covering the wrap up. Ouch, I thought that it was a re-wrap*, since it seemed FOX already had a wrap, but I guess it was a pre-rap.)

* my point was that MSNBC switched to the Olympics, FOX seemed to have called the summit a wrap, and while I watched CNN provide what I thought was highlites, then found it was not wrapped up yet.

[*] 2-26-10 two links added also these: earlier summit post , pre-summit summary, pre-summit push and pitch. Not to mention new swing. Admittedly Republicans "don't do comprehensive well". No, really well.

* I was unable to find the Hardball link which referred to "Left Behind" but the "Left" above is a backlash from the Sherrod "lesson".
[7-23-10 bolds added and note: I am complimenting CNN's coverage of the Sherrod situation, and comparing/contrasting the latest Rangel reaction, as well as Chuck Todd(for Chris Matthews) hosting a conversation. Update "lesson".]
[There may be a silver lining to a Rangel ethics trial, it is about transparency and justice, and politics. Congress can hold their own accountable and demonstrate the hypocrisy of fair and balanced ethics, let alone justice. Some are suggesting he be removed post haste, and that would not serve justice or transparency.]

Obtusity?

Not Here.(Kay label added)
Nor Here.
But in context the former Here is the proper angler.

In a less embedded aside, Leonard Pitts Jr. hits the nail on the head of American Exceptionalism.

In another arena, a friend noted how trustworthy FOX and Bill O'Reilly are. Well, 28% and 9% are far from a margin of victory unless you are looking for an American Icon. NBC, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC combine for 29% while CNN's Cooper and Blitzer match O'Reilly's 9%, and the a4mentioned other network's hosts(Matthews, Brokaw, Couric and Sawyer tied) combine for 12%. So it is only in the winner[*] take all, not knowing what it takes world, where follow the leader matters. Now that is a real Laffer Curveball! Or is it?

[Then there is Pawlenty of problems. Bottom line: if money is a maker then tax it as much as labor. That is an inverse paradox or maybe praximoron.]
[The bottom line is obliquity with intent.]
[Sub** Text]

** asterisks apply to that link, but is not the missing link, but does fit the leadership narrative over people.
[*] boo yeah! Stewart boosts O'Reilly's ratings(**), which likely rigs poll. i.e. maybe FOX viewers are more fair and balanced when the left is presented.
(**) I don't have the Nielsen ratings but it might be reflected in the poll.
[Footnote: scroll over some links for some understanding, but unfortunately links that may need clicking on do not last forever. Hence I hope to be less obtuse but no less oblique in the future. There should be no joy in mud-ville, as the outcome of the NY26th shows, as divided meta(for) prevails. But to unembed these analogies, the Ryan plan was the issue in the divide to lose in New York, 48% takes it, while the issue will next be before the U.S. Senate with Democrats in the majority and Republicans faced with laying their votes on the line. Some will leave the sinking ship, diluting the lemonade. If I may make a few Truman references it is not a direct analogy, but hanging their votes on their necks will be like dividing to conquer.]
[Meanwhile Up-Date]
[Speaking of not Truman--something about:
If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.
With my lemon twist on it:
If it's a choice between a genuine Moderate, and a Moderate in Republican clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Democrat before they will a phony Moderate(update 10-11-2011), and I don't want any phony Moderate candidates in this campaign.

OK, it loses a little bit of it's zest, but that is the nature of the slippery-slope, trickle down, lemonade, mudville.]

"It's my turn"[!]

...is what came to mind as I saw Romney frame the race as a decision between the three winners of the last three contests. That's what Ron Paul(8:45) should say. Or maybe Herman Cain or Stephen Colbert should say it**. I am in the process of watching last night's debate on CNN and Rick Santorum (9:10)kicked off the debate with a thread that crosses another thought I had during the introductions, "We are a country of laws".* Actually Ron Paul had already started a few threads in his introduction, we are not nation builders. Romney(15:58) stands up to a Gingrich charge or rather a question on rhetoric and deals with it in legal terms. My original thought had to do with the irony of the conservative nature, but Gingrich is almost a false flag of rhetoric.

* quoting Santorum, not my thought or thread which I may have lost, but laws are the thread of building our nation

BTW- Not necessarily the missing thought: but in regards to Romney's financial reporting, does it bode well for his credit as a business leader, let alone maker of laws? I mean the mis-reporting, and his math regarding taxes and charitable contributions adding up at times to 40 to 45%?
[related irony (slash) update: what I thought was a churned media book event, may turn out to be good for the debate. What can we learn from Arizona? Will we take her up on it? Will the NAACP take Newt up on his charge? Just how do we demand paychecks*** over food stamps? Is it as easy as rhetoric?]

Un Herd of Change

The Heard not the herd.
The unheard-of change.*
Mobilizing progressives and un-precedented change?

The president walked a line that is hard to parse but the two perspectives above might metric it. Inspiring the left and moving the moderates, I don't know if there is a precedence for a 14 to 20 per cent change in polls overnight. Of course there is precedence for news to leap on hypotheticals or rhetoricals anyway. The line was not exactly a leash but in line with our dog metaphor, the feat before us, and should tug at the character of our wagging or blue dogs. This is not our father's hush puppy or soul food.

Head Hunters?

Actually I am looking for a new job.

Rabbilive.com interviewed Helen Thomas.

Now she has been forced to retire in an ironic atmosphere. Of course she is a journalist and she should have been more careful with her words, or not even held an opinion or at least not mentioned it or done an interview.** Ironically it is hard to extend that consistency to the likes of the Right where journalism and opinion are so connected there would be a whole lot of job openings if it were to be applied across the board. It would also be hard for her to be turned down by some speakers boards*. But then we are back to the irony.
(or Try Un Ism)

* of course given market forces it would still be a risk

** even this may be to harsh an analysis: one would think that she said that Jews should get out of Israel. That is a flat out error by CNN.***
[There is no defending the conclusion that has been reached by those that have listened to Helen Thomas, yet that is a double-edged sword. The conclusion is unjustified that all Jews should get out of Israel, it is also not necessarily what she implied. The challenge is to find a true transcript of her answers to the questions and then not ask "what if's" that are equally off base, especially behind her back.]

*** ["Thomas was then asked where the Jews in Israel should go? Thomas responded, "They should go home," which the White House reporter identified as "Poland, Germany ... and America and everywhere else."] The bold is not confirmed by the original on Rabbilive.com]
